Ukrainian Startup SorbiForce Raises Over $270,000 Through Crowdfunding
Ukrainian startup SorbiForce has raised over $270,000 through the crowdfunding platform StartEngine.
- StartEngine allows you to become a co-investor in a project by investing from $500.
- In SorbiForce’s case, 183 investors backed the company, bringing in a total of $270,123.
- The startup’s current valuation on the platform stands at $20 million.
SorbiForce aims to revolutionize energy storage with eco-friendly batteries. Co-founder and project manager Serhii Kaminskyi highlighted that conventional batteries pose serious recycling challenges and generate large amounts of waste that harm the environment.
The SorbiForce team claims to have developed an eco-friendly battery that requires only water, salt, and carbon to produce. Interesting Engineering provides more detail about the technology:
After years of research, the team has developed sorption batteries that use three physical processes to transfer electrons through an ultra-porous carbon layer at the base, moving them from the cathode to the anode. According to the team, since both electrodes are made of carbon, the battery is completely non-flammable.
At the end of their lifecycle, up to 95% of the battery’s cells can break down into organic materials, while the remaining components are reusable. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, which can turn into toxic plastic waste or even pose explosion risks during recycling, SorbiForce’s metal-free, closed-loop design eliminates those hazards—even if the battery is cut in half.
With its initial crowdfunding success, the team plans to raise $5 million to start production and build its first manufacturing facility.
