Ukrainians Launch Chronicles, a Donation Platform — €100k Already Invested

A team of developers from the EU and Ukraine has launched Chronicles, a platform aimed at attracting donations from Western audiences. While the names of the founders remain undisclosed, the team told Scroll.media they spent approximately €100,000 on the platform’s launch.

What we know s

  • Chronicles is structured like a Twitter feed. Verified military units can post videos, which users can like, comment on, and donate to.
  • According to the developers, registration is currently open only to military units. New accounts can publish content only after a verification process — though the team hasn’t disclosed how this verification is conducted.
  • Users can donate through one-time contributions or by subscribing monthly. Paid content is also available.

«Monetization for units includes three tools: subscriptions to a profile, paid content, and one-time donations. The platform retains 5% of the funds raised, while another 5% covers payment processing and fund withdrawals,» the team explained.

  • Currently, payments are processed via Stripe, with plans to add more options. Donations go to the platform’s account and are then transferred to military units.
  • Units can view their balance in their personal dashboards. Withdrawals are available once a month or when the balance reaches $500 and can be made in any convenient way. Upon request, Chronicles provides a complete transaction report for each unit.

How it works:

  1. Soldiers see their balance reach $500;
  2. They click the «Receive Payment» button;
  3. A manager reviews the request and verifies the details with the unit’s representative;
  4. After verification, the payment is made — typically within 24 hours.

The team plans to streamline and automate this process further in the future.

The goal: €1 million by 2025

  • The team’s ambitious goal is to help military units raise a total of €1 million by 2025. They explained how this forecast was calculated:

«Before building Chronicles, we ran a test campaign to attract English-speaking users to a simple landing page that resembled a unit’s profile on the platform. We saw that people were willing to donate and pay for content. Based on the conversion rate, we decided to move forward with development.»

They estimate their potential audience to be at least 2 million monthly users.

Who’s behind the project?

  • While the founders of Chronicles remain anonymous, they say they’ve been active volunteers since the start of the full-scale invasion.
  • The platform’s idea came out of a growing need for sustainable fundraising tools for the military, especially after repeated issues with military and volunteer accounts being blocked on platforms like Patreon, BuyMeaCoffee, YouTube, and Instagram.
  • The launch cost just under €100,000, covered by seed funding from one of the founders.
  • The team includes seven people: designers, developers, a project manager, and a marketer. Most work part-time and bring experience from outsourcing and marketing sectors. The team is mostly based in Ukraine, with some members located in Spain and the UK.
  • Chronicles is currently in the testing phase and is actively registering new military units.
