MacPaw Creates the Huusion Mobile Photo Editor. What Makes It Special?

MacPaw developer Yevhen Peteliev has launched Huusion, a new mobile photo editing app now available for iOS. The app comes with a free basic feature set, while users can unlock additional tools with a Pro subscription for $12.99 per year.

Huusion makes it quick and easy to apply filters, adjust grain, and set two-tone color effects across the whole image or in selected areas. Users can also create and save their own filters for the one-click application in the future.

«I wanted to create an app that would make photo editing easy,» said Yevhen.

The project started during MacPaw’s internal xDay hackathon, just before the COVID-19 pandemic. Peteliev partnered with Semeon Hrozian, and together, they brought on a team of like-minded developers. However, due to quarantine restrictions — and later, the full-scale invasion of Ukraine — the project was temporarily shelved.

Huusion was officially unveiled to the public on May 29, following a closed beta with a limited group of testers.

What Makes It Stand Out?

Unlike most photo editing apps packed with dozens of sliders and menus, Huusion intentionally keeps things simple — a response to what Yevhen described as the «nightmare» of overcomplicated editing tools.

This isn’t the app for airbrushing skin to perfection, adding cat ears, or transforming yourself into an anime character. Instead, Huusion invites users to «play with color,» boost brightness, and turn ordinary images into creative design pieces.

These core features are available in the free version. Users who want more can upgrade to Huusion Pro for $12.99 per year, $1.99 per month, or a one-time purchase of $19.99 for an extended toolkit.
